Our visit to Bean Place garden and nursery at Headcorn on 15th July was enjoyed by 26 members. Tim and Anita Waters gave an interesting tour of their nursery and showed off their amazing potting machine. Their private garden is divided into attractive ‘rooms’ with hornbeam hedging. Refreshments were provided on their terrace area

Bring a chair if possible and a plate of food to share. We supply the drink. Potato buckets to Barbara’s at 1 Little Crouch, Rye Road. These may be left earlier in the day in her front garden. Make sure you put a label on yours and cut off the leaves please.

Whether you have a large garden and are fairly knowledgeable about your plants, or have just a small plot and enjoy “pottering”, you can be sure of a friendly welcome with the Sandhurst & District Horticultural Society.  For a very reasonable £10 annual subscription you will be able to enjoy meeting like minded people who are always keen to learn a bit more about making the most of their garden.  Currently we have a membership of around 70  and we meet up on the first Wednesday of each month in the Old School Hall, Back Road, Sandhurst at 8.00 pm, but come earlier, from 7.30 pm to register, meet people and if you wish, take part in our fun monthly competitions. There is a sales table for plants and home grown seeds. We also have a good raffle and finish the evening with coffee or tea etc.

We have an Annual Programme and Competition Schedule that is circulated in December for the following year. As a general rule we have a good variety of speakers from January to June and a Social event during one of the summer months, and also an Annual Coach outing to an interesting and beautiful garden. The cost for the coach outing and admission is usually priced in the region of £25 per person. We also try to arrange a summer evening visit to a local garden.  Then we go back to our meetings in the hall from September to December. We have a presentation of the competition trophies and AGM in December, followed by a glass of wine and refreshments. It’s all very informal and friendly.

Every year we have a hugely popular PLANT SALE in mid May and every TWO years we hold a Mini Show with a lovely variety of classes. Something for everyone.

If you would like to ‘dip your toe in the water’ without committing yourself, why not come along as a guest for just £2 per session.
