The Cottage, Ringle Oast – Jon and Rosemary Palmes
We moved here in 2015 taking on the much loved garden of The Cottage, Ringle Oast from Joan Hall which had been beautifully maintained by her with the help of John and Shirley Everett. Their annual mulching to what used to be the kitchen garden to Ringle Crouch had made the soil very workable.
Being keen gardeners we aimed to create a garden hopefully less labour intensive for just the two of us and with this in mind we re-designed the layout to make a separate wild flower and spring bulb meadow at the end of the garden with raised borders for vegetables. Grass paths were laid with matching flower borders either side of the main area of lawn and a hornbeam hedge was planted with a central reclaimed iron gate to separate the two areas. We planted the borders with a mixture of shrubs and plants we love and have collected over the years and continue to replace and top-up as and when we need to. This is the fun of gardening!
We are delighted to have been asked to host the Sandhurst Horticultural Society Evening Social event here as well as Open Gardens with Hospice in the Weald when others can enjoy our garden. It gives us great pleasure and something to work towards during the year.
It is hoped that Virtual Open Gardens will be able to bring all our gardens to others during the difficult months ahead.
